This adventure started back in July when I got this email.
I entered the random selection process for the first time, and maxed everyday out to increase my odds from not chance in hell, to getting struck by lightning…. “So you say there is a chance?”. The roulette wheel stopped on Four, Tuesday Practice Round tickets. I immediately ran down the hall at the office and told my dad that we were going to the Masters. Neither of us have stepped foot on the hallowed grounds of Augusta National so you can imagine our excitement.
It couldn’t have worked out better because one of my best friends is getting married in Charleston this weekend so we were already going to be within shouting distance of Magnolia Lane. That moment is when “The Great Augusta Road Trip” grew its legs. The itinerary is as follows:
Thursday: Head to Atlanta to break up the drive to Charleston
Friday/Saturday: Wedding festivities
Sunday: Put Mom on a plane back home and head to Wild Dunes to play a round at the Harbor Course
Monday: Head to Augusta, hopefully stopping in Aiken, SC to play Aiken Golf Club on our way in.
Tuesday: Practice Round and drive to Birmingham after.
Wednesday: Get up at the ass crack of dawn to be back at work by 8.
Needless to say we have a big 6 days ahead of us. The anticipation for this trip has been at an all time high for a number of reasons but the main one is that I will be on the same golf course as Tiger Woods for the first time in my life, with the man that I used to watch him with every Saturday and Sunday for so many years. The fact that it is happening at Augusta National is just the cherry on top of the peach ice cream.
